Have you noticed your BMW X6 suddenly feels not-so-luxurious or sporty? After all, you bought your German SUV (or SAV in BMW’s words) to dominate the roads at a fast pace while getting pampered. Yet, once your air suspension system components go faulty, that smooth sailing suddenly feels more comparable to a go-kart ride. Thankfully, when the issues are in your rear air spring, the fix can take less than an hour to get back to those legendary cruises. Get started today by ordering your BMW X6 (E71) air spring from AEROSUS and following our guide for a replacement.
How to Install a New Air Spring in 6 Steps
Once you receive your rear air spring from AEROSUS, it’s time to begin the installation process. No need to worry, as this part only takes a few quick steps to help restore your drives.
1. Get Started To get started with your replacement, perform the basics of getting your vehicle ready. Set your steering straight ahead, disconnect your battery, and lift your vehicle with a proper jack or apparatus and at the proper points.
2. Remove Your Wheel Again, follow the basics. Remove your lug nuts then take off the wheel.
3. Deflate the Current Air Spring For this step, remove the panels under your X6’s right side—regardless of where your problematic air spring sits, as this will grant you access to the valve block. From here, remove the airline connected to the air spring(s) you need to deflate—typically, the hose on the right corresponds to your right air spring, while the hose on the left connects to the left air spring.
4. Remove the Air Spring Start by removing the bottom piston from the air spring seat—simply push the tabs and push up on the piston. Next, turn the air spring counterclockwise roughly 90 degrees—then, you can pull the air spring out. Finish off by removing the air line from the spring and throwing away the fitting from the hose.
5. Install Your AEROSUS Air Spring From here, you’ll essentially perform the above steps in reverse. Insert the airline into your new spring—then, place the spring into the lower piston and turn clockwise about 90 degrees until properly secured. Then, secure your piston back into position in the air spring seat. Now, attach the air line to the valve block, and reinstall the under panels of your X6. Finish off by reinstalling your wheel in the proper position and screwing in the lug nuts.
6. Finish Up You can now lower your SUV, reconnect your battery, and start your vehicle for a few minutes to adjust to the new installation.
