Before we get started, feel free to check out our video also. This will provide you with a visual aid to make your air compressor repair all the easier.
Now, let’s get started with this air compressor replacement.
1. Disconnect your battery. Before completing any air compressor repair, make sure you always start by disconnecting your battery. This way, you prevent risks of injury to yourself and damages to your car.2. Raise your Mercedes Benz S class. Start by setting your steering to straight ahead. From here, jack up your vehicle. Make sure you lift your car with the specified lifting points.
3. Remove your front and rear underbody guards/ skid plates. Use your 10mm wrench to unscrew the bolts holding these guards in place.
It helps to use an anti-seize to loosen up the nuts. This prevents the bolts from breaking if they’ve rusted. Plus, it lubricates the bolts and makes this step much easier.
4. Expose the old air compressor. Start by moving the skid plate (underbody guard) out of the way.
From here, use your pliers to loosen the hose clamp on the compressor. This will allow you to remove the hose.
Next, use your 10 mm wrench to unscrew the compressed air hose connector.
Finish off by disconnecting the 2 cables that link into the air compressor.
5. Remove your air compressor. Use your wrench to loosen the 3 screws on the compressor. Then, remove the compressor (and mounting hardware) from your car.
6. Move the 3 rubber buffers from your old compressor to the new compressor.
Note the orientation of the first air compressor. You’ll need to replicate this when you move these pieces onto your new air compressor.
7. Insert your new compressor inside your car. Use your wrench to tighten the 3 nuts to the compressor unit.
8. Secure your air hose into place. Fasten this air hose with the clamp.
9. Fasten the pressure relief hose and connector. Start by removing the brass clip from your pressure relief hose. Then, you’ll push the line into the new compressor unit until it bottoms out. You’ll even hear a click sound when you’ve gone far enough.
DON’T tighten the cap nut.
Then, finish off by reconnecting the two electrical connectors to your compressor.
10. Wrapping Up: Finishing the installation. Remount your front and rear underbody guards. Next, you’re safe to reconnect your battery to your car. After this, you can lower your Mercedes Benz S Class to the floor.
Finish off by starting your engine and letting it run for a few minutes. This gives you a chance to see that everything is working as it should.
