1. Ugly Sagging
Here’s the easiest way to spot a damaged air compressor. Look at your Mercedes Benz’s stance. Do you notice some sagging to one of the back corners? Or, when driving, do your backseat passengers feel the sagging? If you answer yes, then you’ll want to take a look at your air compressor.
This results when your compressor fails to send enough air to your air bags. As such, the bag can’t fully inflate, and your car sags. This can be anything from a leak to excess wear and tear from your compressor. Whatever the cause, we can all agree it’s not a good look for this German beauty.
2. Not So Luxurious Ride
When your air compressor goes bad, nothing about your ride is smooth. You’ll feel every bump and pothole in the road. Rough streets can hurt when you drive over them.
Alongside the bumpiness, you’ll find some other discomforts. Rolling when braking and leaning while cornering are all common symptoms. At this point, the only way to restore your Mercedes Benz’s comfort is to replace that air compressor.
3. Lower Ride Than Normal
Your airbags won’t inflate as they should when your air suspension compressor goes faulty. Thus, you’ll find your ride drops lower than normal. This leads to less ground clearance. So, curbs, speed bumps, and other obstructions have a high chance of causing damage to the front and lower end of your car. And that bumper damage gets expensive fast.
4. Air Compressor Won’t Stop Running
When your air suspension can’t inflate your air bags, it will run non-stop to compensate. This sign is hard to detect. But if you listen closely when you shut off your Mercedes, you’ll hear your compressor running.
5. Your Compressor
This step might sound obvious, but it’s still easy to overlook. Your air suspension system works automatically. So, when it doesn’t turn on at all, you know it’s experiencing some serious problems. At this point, you don’t have many options other than a replacement.
Have you noticed any of the above signs on your car?
Then it’s time to replace your air compressor before more damage occurs.
